Burning of the v/mA exit on ATR243

Post by user5723 »

Dear sirs,

We have a client that was trying to apply a ATR243-20ABC, to read the temperature of one process and to retransmit that process information to a PLC via the V/mA output.
The PLC only has a + terminal to connect the mA input signal.
According to the client the connections were made as follow:
Terminals 10 and 9 - 230 Vac;
Terminals 3, 2 and 1 - Probe connection (PT100 3 wires).

The parameters were set as follow:
C.out - C.01
Sen - PT
rETr - Ma.P
Lolr - -100
UPLr - 600
Jumper's JP5, JP6 and JP9 as explained in the manual (a with a free pin between the jumper 9 and the 5)

To check the output we connected one of probes of a multimeter to the ground and tried to mesure the mA on the terminal 4 with the other probe. The result was the burning of the circuit.
According to him, this was the correct way to measure the exit, but i have doubts.

Can you help us in order to explained to the client what went wrong?

Hi,
current output must be measure to 4-5 pins, not from the ground. Connecting the pin 5 to the ground removes the isolation form the power supply to the output making short-circuits that will overload the output.

Good afternoon.

Thanks for your replay.
The client tell us that he as measured the output between the terminal 4 and the ground, not the terminal 5.
Is the result the same?
Having no negative terminal on the PLC how can he connect the output of the ATR to the PLC?
What is the proper way to measure the output in mA, without the loop complete?

The loop is created (mA output of the ATR243 is active) between pins 4-5 so the value of the current must be measured form theese pins.
Negative signal (pin 4) must be connected to the negative reference of the analog input of the PLC, normally it isn't the ground of the power supply.
